My world has crashed’ – Actor Wale Ojo devastated after losing mother

Wale Ojo, the ‘Best Actor’ winner at the just concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), has lost his mother.

The actor confirmed his mother’s demise in a post on Instagram on Saturday.

“My world has crashed all around me. Mama is gone. Goodnight Mum. I will miss you, terribly,” he wrote.

Ojo who won the Best Lead Actor award for playing the lead actor in the Nigeria drama film, Breath of Life, dedicated the win to his mother.

“Mama I won!!” Ojo wrote on Instagram.

Ojo beat Stan Nze (Afamefuna), Marc Zinga (Omen), Gideon Okeke (Egun), David Ezekiel (Blood Vessel), Richard Mofe Damijo (The Black Book), Adedimeji Lateef (Jagun Jagun – The Warrior) and Gabriel Afolayan (This is Lagos) to win the prestigious award.

Ojo’s acting career began at a young age. At age 8, he was already acting alongside established actors.

He later moved to England with his family and attended university there.

Ojo’s breakthrough role came in 1995 with the movie ‘The Hard Case’.

Since then, he has starred in numerous Nollywood and British productions including ‘Phone Swap’, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’, and Apple TV’s ‘Foundation’.

Ojo received his first award as an actor at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2012.

The grieving actor credits his successful career to his mother who was an actor.

He also acknowledges the influence of playwrights like Wole Soyinka and Zulu Sofola.
